Fatality Involving a Moose, Chena Hot Springs, Alaska

On May 7, AST received a report of a collision involving a moose on Chena Hot Springs Road. The driver, a 50 year old male and his passenger, a 53 year old female, were traveling on Chena Hot Springs Road at a high speed. They collided with a moose in their 2011 Audi. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident.

Signs to watch out for drunk drivers include:

Making wide turns

Weaving, swerving, drifting, or straddling the center line

Almost striking an object or vehicle

Driving on the wrong side of the road

Driving at a very slow speed

Stopping without cause

Braking erratically

Responding slowly to traffic signals

Turning abruptly or illegally

Driving after dark with headlights off
